QUESTION 2
Why
Should We Pray?
God has established a
Father-son relationship with us, through Christ, which allows us to
bring up matters that are of concern to us. Being our Father, He does away
with stilted formalities and accepts us with our inadequacies, our lisps
of speech and lapses of memory notwithstanding.
We have a meeting of our
minds with the mind of God in a privileged, intimate, family
relationship. Not only does He reveal to us His deepest desires
and benevolent designs, He even shares with us the underlying reasons
for His actions and objectives. He takes pleasure in watching us grow,
and delights in our feedback concerning our desires and aspirations,
as children adjusting ourselves to be in line with His will. Prayer, therefore,
is one way of sharing 'quality time' with our Father. It is something
we should appreciate with all sensibility and sensitivity and which we
should treat with the sincerity and respect it deserves.
